Unlock PDF with known password
Save an unencrypted copy using the password you already know. Use Unlock PDF with known password locally with practical instructions, output settings and format limits.
Unlock PDF with known password
Create an unencrypted PDF copy by supplying the correct known open password for a protected document. This is useful when you need a readable input for page operations or a permitted working copy. The tool verifies the password and writes a new file; it does not recover or guess unknown passwords.
- Prepare a known-password PDF for merging
- Create an unencrypted working copy
- Remove an open-password requirement using the correct password
How to use Unlock PDF with known password
Choose the protected document
Upload one PDF of up to one hundred pages. Have its correct open password available before running the operation, rather than trying guesses through the tool.
Enter the known password
Type the current open password into the password field. Use the exact characters and avoid copying surrounding spaces from another source unless those spaces belong to it.
Create the unlocked copy
Run Process document so the engine authenticates the password and saves an unencrypted result. An incorrect password produces an error instead of a partial document.
Check the working document
Download and open the new PDF without entering the original password. Review the content and use this copy for the intended merge, extraction or other document operation.
Understand the settings
- Known open password
- Enter the document password only for this operation. It is sent to the local worker, omitted from public job details and never included in a download filename. Keep a separate safe copy if you are setting a new password.
An input for a document packet
A supplied PDF has a known open password but needs to join an unprotected project packet. Upload it, enter the correct password and create the unlocked copy. Verify it opens normally, then use that copy in the PDF merge workflow.
Check your result
Choose a file, adjust the settings, then download the result. Requires the correct password; does not recover passwords. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.
What to know before you start
- Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
- Requires the correct password; does not recover passwords.
- Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
- Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
- Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
Unlock PDF with known password: common questions
Does this discover an unknown password?
No. The tool requires the correct known open password and does not provide password recovery or guessing. If the password is unavailable, obtain it through the document owner’s normal process before attempting to create a working copy.
What happens if the password is incorrect?
The PDF engine rejects an incorrect password and returns an error. Check the exact value, including character case and intentional spaces, rather than expecting the tool to create an incomplete or partially decrypted document.
Will the downloaded file still ask for that password?
The output is saved without the original PDF encryption and should open without that password in a compatible reader. Test the downloaded copy before using it as input to another document tool or handing it off.
Can I change the password instead?
Create the unlocked copy with the known current password, then use Password protect PDF to create a separate copy with a new open password. Verify the new result and retain passwords through your own appropriate storage process.
Does Unlock PDF with known password upload files to another service?
Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.
Can I continue after changing pages?
Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
