A practical guide

WEBP to PNG

Convert a WEBP image into PNG for an upload form, website or editing app that expects that format. The converter decodes the image and writes a new file rather than renaming the extension. The output retains only the features supported by the destination image format.

  • Prepare a PNG copy for a service that does not accept WEBP.
  • Set an output width while retaining the original source file.
  • Create a delivery copy with the settings your next app needs.

How to use WEBP to PNG

  1. Select your WEBP files

Use Select File or drop supported WEBP files into the upload area. Each file creates a separate PNG result. Check that the filename extension matches the contents and that the original opens correctly before adding a larger batch.

  2. Choose the output settings

Open Options beside a selected file. Width is available for this WEBP to PNG operation. Save options to apply them to that file; other files in a batch can use different settings.

  3. Convert to PNG

Select Convert to add the files to the local queue. Files run one at a time, with real progress where the engine provides it. You can cancel a queued or running job and retry a failed result after correcting its input or settings.

  4. Download and check the result

When a file is finished, use Download to save the PNG result. Use Download all for finished results on this converter page. Save downloads before the 30-minute temporary retention ends.

Understand the settings

Width (pixels; 0 keeps original)
Set the output width in pixels. Use 0 to keep the original width; proportions are retained. Default: 0.

Choose settings for the destination

Start with a 2400-pixel-wide WEBP image. Set Width to 1200 to create a narrower copy while retaining its proportions. Inspect the saved file before submitting or sharing it. Keep the original if you may need another export later.

Check your result

Inspect small text, fine edges, orientation and transparency at the intended display size. Standard format-pair conversion uses the first frame or page and removes metadata. Use the dedicated animation tools for moving GIF/WebP/APNG, or metadata tools when inspection or removal is the specific task.

About WEBP

Supports both lossy and lossless images, including transparency. Often used to reduce image sizes on websites.

About PNG

Stores images without lossy compression and supports transparency. Commonly used for screenshots, logos and graphics.

What to know before you start

  • Only the first frame/page is converted.
  • JPEG transparency is flattened onto white.
  • Metadata is removed; SVG must be self-contained, without CSS escapes.
  • Up to 20 files per session, 100 MB per file and 200 MB per output. Processing has a 180-second job deadline.

WEBP to PNG: common questions

How do I convert WEBP to PNG?

Choose your WEBP files, review Options and the format notes, then select Convert. Download the finished PNG copy and check it in your destination application. Each input is processed independently; the original file remains unchanged.

Will converting to PNG improve image quality?

PNG stores the decoded image without further lossy compression. It cannot recover detail already removed from the source image.

Which settings can I change for WEBP to PNG?

Width (pixels; 0 keeps original): Set the output width in pixels. Use 0 to keep the original width; proportions are retained. Default: 0.

Will the result be smaller or better quality?

A successful PNG conversion does not guarantee a smaller file or recovered detail. Container overhead, compression and the selected settings all affect output size. Check the saved result and keep the source if you might need a different export.

Why did my WEBP file fail?

Read the message beside the file. A mismatched extension, corrupt data, unsupported feature or resource limit can prevent conversion. Check that the source opens normally, try the default settings and retry. The app will not offer a successful download for a failed job.

Where are files processed and how long are they kept?

Your browser sends selected files to the local server on this computer. No external conversion service is used. Temporary job copies expire after approximately 30 minutes; remove or clear deletes them sooner. Originals and downloads you saved are not overwritten.
