View / remove image metadata

Inspect image metadata or save a clean copy without it. Use View / remove image metadata locally with practical instructions, output settings and format limits.

A practical guide

View / remove image metadata

Inspect image properties and available EXIF values as JSON, or make a new image with metadata removed. The report can include dimensions, DPI, ICC profile presence and GPS information when stored in the source. Strip mode re-encodes the pixels, so review the resulting appearance as well as the metadata.

  • Inspect available camera EXIF fields
  • Check whether an image contains GPS metadata
  • Create a copy without source image metadata

How to use View / remove image metadata

  1. Choose an original image

Add one supported still image. Use the original file when inspecting metadata, because an edited or messaging-app copy may already have removed many source fields.

  2. Choose viewing or removal

Select Metadata JSON to inspect the stored properties, or Strip metadata to create an image copy. Choose the output image format for strip mode.

  3. Create the report or copy

Run Create output. Inspection exports available values; stripping creates a fresh encoded image without carrying over source EXIF, comments, ICC profile or DPI metadata.

  4. Review the relevant result

Download the JSON report or new image. Inspect the report for the fields you need, or compare the stripped image’s colours and appearance before using it.

Understand the settings

Action
Choose action according to the result you need. Available choices: Metadata JSON; Strip metadata. The initial selection is Metadata JSON.
Output format
Choose output format according to the result you need. Available choices: PNG; JPG; WEBP. The initial selection is PNG.
Metadata report format
Choose metadata report format according to the result you need. Available choices: json; csv. The initial selection is json.
Metadata search (optional)
Metadata search (optional) is applied to this tool job. Use the value or syntax described in the example below. Leave it blank only when the field is described as optional.

Checking a photo before sharing

A photographer wants to see whether a source JPG includes location data. Select Metadata JSON and inspect the GPS fields if present. To create a version without the source metadata, run Strip metadata and review the newly encoded image before sharing.

Check your result

Upload a supported file, adjust the settings and create the output. Inspect supported EXIF, IPTC and XMP fields, search and export JSON/CSV. Strip mode re-encodes pixels without copying metadata. Open the saved output in the app or workflow where you plan to use it. Check one representative result before repeating the same settings with more files. The original files stay unchanged.

What to know before you start

  • Files are processed on this device. Browser memory and engine-specific limits apply. Save results before reloading.
  • Inspect supported EXIF, IPTC and XMP fields, search and export JSON/CSV. Strip mode re-encodes pixels without copying metadata.
  • Upload one file with a combined size of at most 100 MB. The completed output must fit within 200 MB.
  • Files are checked by the local engine; a matching filename alone is not proof of valid contents.
  • Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.

View / remove image metadata: common questions

Does every image contain GPS information?

No. GPS appears in the report only when it is present and readable in the source EXIF. A report without location fields does not establish the history of earlier files or information stored separately from the image.

Is stripping a lossless file edit?

Strip mode re-encodes image pixels rather than simply deleting selected container fields. JPG or WebP can therefore introduce encoding differences, and dropping an ICC profile can affect colour interpretation. Compare the new image with the source.

Can I remove only one EXIF field?

This tool offers a report or a fresh image without the source metadata. It does not provide field-by-field EXIF editing. Retain the original when you may later need camera details or a different metadata workflow.

What does ICC profile presence tell me?

The report indicates the number of ICC profile bytes available in the image. That helps identify a stored colour profile, but it is not a full colour audit or a guarantee that different applications will display identical colours.

Does View / remove image metadata upload files to another service?

Processing runs in this browser, on your device. Files and pasted input are not uploaded to a conversion server. The website and required engine assets must load first; large operations depend on available device memory.

Can I continue after changing pages?

Selections and completed jobs stay available while you navigate inside this tab. Use My files to revisit results. Reloading or closing the tab clears the workspace; download results you want to keep first.
